Charles Caleb Stone Joins the Flame’s Editorial Team

Charles Caleb Stone will be joining the East Idaho Flame team as our newest editor. Stone will be contributing to The Editors’ Log, as well as reporting the news and sharing his opinion on local issues in our Editorial section.

“As one of East Idaho Flame’s newest contributors,” Stone says, “my hope is to provide another perspective on local, state, and national government and what we can do to make our communities, our state, and our nation better. In addition, I look forward to covering some news of interest to our readers. If you ever disagree with a point I am making, by all means let me know why that point is wrong and what you believe is more correct. I have a lot more respect for someone’s argument if it is given with the intent to find a common understanding, rather than arguing to simply defend one’s position.”

Stone continues, “Government and politics are topics that some people avoid altogether because they’ve had bad experiences discussing the topics before, or they believe such conversations ultimately lead to heated arguments, or cause someone to be offended. Engaging in civilized conversations about government can sometimes be a challenge and, unfortunately, the media tends to thrive on creating controversy and contention. Still, I admire those who respectfully speak their mind and who aren’t afraid of discussing ideas that may conflict with their own. I believe it is possible to have respectful discussions about politics, even when disagreements arise. I think those who avoid doing so because they cannot appreciate opposing opinions, or because they are apathetic toward the subject, are only doing themselves and others a disservice.”

We are excited to have him on our team.

The Mark of a Man

Satwat Singh Kaleka gave his life the other day. He died in an effort to save other people. Noble? Yes. Selfless? Yes? Heroic? By all means. But I would contend that Mr. Kaleka was a hero long before he made the decision to tackle a gunman in a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. . .
